Descriptions

BASIS provided the role of Technical Lead on the Owner’s Engineer team and provided geotechnical engineering during the development of the Haisla Bridge Design Build project. The Haisla Bridge serves as a critical link across the Kitimat River along the Highway 37 corridor. The river is home to oolichan, trout, and all five species of North American salmon.

Work included development of the highway, drainage, structural, and geotechnical design for a reference concept to provide a basis for cost estimates and guidance to bidders. Bid documents were created for the construction contract, which required extensive work and coordination of multiple disciplines, including hydrotechnical, environmental investigations and permitting, and utilities. BASIS led an extensive geotechnical investigation and developed factual geotechnical reports, as well as the foundation design for the reference contract.

The new Haisla Bridge was delivered on budget within 33 months, a tremendous engineering and construction accomplishment that overcame extensive permitting requirements, an atmospheric river event, and a global pandemic.
